Nutrition CME Now Available (University of Wisconsin)

*Located in Madison, WI

The University of Wisconsin Office of Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and Public Health is pleased to offer five new self-paced e-learning modules on nutrition evaluation and management topics. http://www.cme.wisc.edu/distance/nutr/web/

Each of the five topics focuses on one of the following common chronic diseases:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Lipid Disorders
  • Obesity
  • Metabolic Syndrome

These materials are designed to help practitioners implement evidence based nutrition guidelines in a clinical practice setting. Each topic includes a PowerPoint presentation with audio, a case study, and a quiz. Access to the modules is free. CME and CE credits can also be earned for a small fee upon successful completion of each module.

The e-learning topics follow the format of the 5 A's for behavioral counseling by primary care clinicians recommended by the US Preventive Services Task Force: assess, advise, agree, assist, and arrange. Techniques and tools to implement each of these steps are discussed and numerous on-line resources are provided. The case study format offers an opportunity to apply the recommended principles and practices. These nutrition evaluation and management topics are appropriate for a wide variety of medical professionals, including physicians, physicians assistants, nurses, registered dietitians, and others.  The University of Wisconsin Medical Nutrition Handbook provides additional detail and web links on the topics included in these in these e-learning modules. http://naa.medicine.wisc.edu
