Wisconsin outperforms the national average in 36 out of 54 measures studied by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute in a new report.

The report compares Wisconsin to the national average and Minnesota, which has similar demographics and comparable size. The state outperformed both on 10 health indicators including adults meeting recommended levels of physical activity, the percent of children without health insurance and overall quality of healthcare.

But Wisconsin had a higher suicide rate, a greater percentage of children in poverty and a higher rate of preventable hospitalizations than its neighbor.
