Mount Mary University Needs Your Input

Mount Mary University is conducting a survey to determine interest level in a professional doctorate in nutrition and dietetics. A professional doctorate differs from a traditional research-focused PhD, in that a professional doctorate focuses more on coursework to advance knowledge, a residency, and becoming proficient in outcomes based research.

Many other allied health professions, such as Pharmacy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy have existing professional doctorate programs. In fact, a doctorate is required for entry level practice as a physical therapist. A master’s degree is required for entry level practice as a speech therapist. And, as of 2024, a master’s degree will be required for new students to become an RDN.

The purpose of this survey is to better assess whether the nutrition and dietetics profession should elevate opportunities for advanced practice degrees. We are inviting current Midwestern members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics to offer their perspective on a professional doctorate degree. We envision such a professional doctorate program would consist of coursework (completed partially online), a residency, an oral exam, and a research project that could be completed at the student’s site of practice.

This survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete, and will be open for 2 weeks. We greatly appreciate your time to complete this survey!
