November Member of the Month: Katelyn Knapp

I became a member of WAND as a student at UW-Madison and the benefits of being a student member carried on into my professional career as a Dietitian. I began utilizing the resources from the Academy for class, and I found it to be extremely beneficial for both my studies, and my career as a personal trainer. As I transitioned into my dietetics internship, I began utilizing my membership in more diverse ways. I found out that being a member is a great opportunity for networking. I participated in Advocacy Day at the Capitol, lead the sponsorship team for the WAND Conference, was part of the raffle team for the WAND Conference, and participated in a cooking class at Mount Mary University. I also received the “Outstanding Dietetics Student Award” during my internship. Because of the amazing experiences I have already gained by being a member, I decided to give back by signing up to be on the Awards and Scholarship Committee. My current work is very diverse spending time as a Community Dietitian at WIC, a Long-Term-Care Dietitian at New Glarus Home, and a PRN Clinical Dietitian at Prairie Ridge Health. As a brand new RD, I am thankful that WAND has provided me with opportunities to get my foot in the door.
