We just received very good news from WAND Lobbyist Dan Carpenter; the Senate Education Committee voted December 21st to adopt Amendment 1 (7-0) and pass the amended version of the Nutrition Education Act (7-0) out of committee. It is now available for scheduling in the full Senate!

The next step is an Executive Session in the Assembly, which we will be requesting of the committee chair. Stay tuned, as we anticipate posting an Action Alert once this vote is scheduled.

Sincere thanks are due to WAND PPAC member Karen Krchma, RDN, CD and SNA-WI President Diane Agrell for providing expert testimony in support of SB 159 at the Senate Education Committee hearing on Tuesday, December 20th. We are also greatly indebted to Dan Carpenter, who spent Wednesday afternoon talking to legislative offices and making sure there weren't any concerns, paving the way for success in Thursday’s Executive Session.

Bravo to WAND and SNA-WI for teaming up to advocate for improved nutrition education and health promotion in Wisconsin schools!
